The Case Against 8 is a 2014 American documentary directed by Ben Cotner and Ryan White. The film provides an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the legal battle to overturn California's Proposition 8, which had banned same-sex marriage in the state. It follows the journey of two same-sex couples and their legal team as they challenge the constitutionality of the proposition, culminating in a landmark case that reached the U.S. Supreme Court.
The beauty of this documentary lies not just in its historical significance but in its humanity. It sheds light on the courage, resilience, and vulnerability of those who stood up to fight for their rights—and by extension, for the rights of millions of others.
