Together We Grow tells the inspiring story of a thriving community hub helping to build local resilience. Too many communities around the world are facing housing crises, food insecurity, social isolation, and more. How can we most effectively confront these challenges, and help our communities thrive in an economic system that leaves many feeling trapped in poverty?

  • Storyteller / Filmmaker

    With over 10 years of experience in research and analytics, she loves storytelling. She’s worked with clients across various industries including entertainment, alcohol, retail, CPG and auto categories understand and culturally connect with their growth segments.

    Frances currently serves as a working member for the Advertising Research Foundation’s Culture Council, ThinkLA’s Diversity, Inclusion and Gender (DIG) Committee, and as the Recruitment Chair and member of the Young Professional Advisory Board (YPAB) for the LAMusArt, a nonprofit offering subsidized arts and music classes for students in Los Angeles. In her spare time, she has guest lectured for graduate students on cultural insights and marketing at St. John's University in New York and has presented goal setting workshops and college prep training sessions at Los Angeles High Schools and non-profits such as COOP.

    Patrilie Hernandez (they/she) is a liberatory educator, strategist, and independent consultant with over 16 years of experience in public health, food systems, and nonprofit leadership. Through their consulting practice, Embody Lib, Patrilie partners with nonprofits, public and private sector institutions to improve organizational culture, policies, and practices that impact the health and well-being of staff, leadership, and the communities they serve.

    Their work is grounded in the belief that dignity for all should be foundational, not conditional, and that fairness must be reflected in systems, not just statements. Drawing from a multidisciplinary background in social science, public health, and nonprofit management, as well as their lived experience as a higher-weight, neurodivergent, Queer, Latine person of color, Patrilie brings a nuanced, intersectional approach to creating sustainable change.

    They specialize in body-inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive strategies that help organizations move beyond the performative and work towards just access to resources and fair opportunities for all.

    When not working, Patrilie enjoys cooking, tending to their garden, and spending time with their spouse and dog.

    The Asian American Documentary Network (A-Doc) is a national network of 1000+ members working to increase the visibility and support of Asian Americans in the documentary field. A-Doc is committed to sharing ideas and resources, providing mutual support and mentorship, and advocating for equity and diversity in the production and distribution of non-fiction storytelling. In 2020, A-Doc launched its first Storytelling Initiative: Asian American Stories in the Time of Coronavirus, a collection of microdocs and personal essays sharing unique perspectives about the pandemic, created to disrupt mainstream narratives about Asian American communities. For over 40 years, the Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) has been dedicated to presenting stories that convey the richness and diversity of Asian American experiences to the broadest audience possible. As a nonprofit organization, CAAM funds, produces, distributes, and exhibits works in film, television, and digital media.
